The Woodlands Lifestyle Newborn Photography | Mims Family

The Woodlands Lifestyle Newborn Photography | Mims Family

Can you say adorable?! The Mims family is seriously one of the sweetest and most beautiful families ever! Living near The Woodlands, lifestyle newborn photography has always been a passion of mine. There is something so beautiful about capturing those first little moments that a newborn experiences. This sweet family recently had a little one, and I am so blessed to be able to document such a wonderful time in their lives.  You could easily say that I was so happy to be doing The Woodlands Lifestyle Newborn Photography for them.
The Mims have been using me as their photographer since they had their second baby, JP. Their family has grown a lot since then, as they have added two more sweet girls in the mix. This family of six has become such close friends of mine. They are so incredibly encouraging and supportive of me and my business. I am truly blessed to have them in my life, and know that God has placed them here for a reason.
For this shoot, we decided on an at-home session. Because I want my clients to feel relaxed and comfortable, at-home sessions are always an easy way to accomplish exactly that. The Mims have a beautiful house filled with love and laughter. Their oldest daughter was just precious, and sweet as can be. JP, their son, loved to be in front of the lens. He was the cutest little smile! The two little girls were just adorable in every sense of the word. The littlest and newest addition was loved on by her whole family, swarmed by cuddles and kisses. I loved seeing her sister give her sweet kisses on the cheek. There’s nothing sweeter than baby sibling love!
The lighting in the house was a little dark that day due to the rain, but since their home has large windows, it allowed a good amount of light to shine through. All in all, we captured some amazing memories for this sweet family. I had a wonderful time with the Mims’, and look forward to seeing them again soon. I am so happy for their growing family.

The Woodlands Natural Light Photography | 5 Reasons Why I Love Photography (And Why You Should Too)

The Woodlands Natural Light Photography | 5 Reasons Why I Love Photography (And Why You Should Too)

If you know me, then you know that I started out my The Woodlands Natural Light Photography career “accidentally.” It all began when I was taking photos of my son, and I was in love with documenting his precious little life. I became more interested in capturing the sweet moments that I never wanted to forget, so my husband got me a nicer camera.
Eventually, I found myself never wanting to put down the lens. I knew that I not only wanted to document moments in my life, but I wanted to do the same for others. My passion took control, and now, my career revolves around it. And you know what? It’s amazing! I am so blessed to be able to do what I love, and to also spread joy to families all around The Woodlands and Conroe area. Here are the top 5 reasons that I love photography:
  1. Documentation – I love documenting the now. Candid photography allows me to capture those in-between moments that are so fleeting. Those natural smiles and laughs, the way a man looks into the eyes of the woman he loves, and the way a tiny baby sleeps soundly. These are all examples of moments that we tend to love and cherish about the important people in our lives.
  2. Decor – Who doesn’t love a decorated home adorned with happiness, laughter, and love? There is no better way to decorate a home than to adorn the walls and surfaces with captured memories. I decorate my home with images that some of my favorite photographers have taken of me and my family. It always brings a smile to my face, as well as the faces of the people that come to visit!
  3. Time – Seeing fleeting memories of my children takes me back in time. I can literally relive moments that happened, and so can you! My goal is to document REAL life. Not a fake representation of your life. I love when my clients relax and let loose. It makes for such beautiful photos!
  4. The One Time Everyone Looks Put Together – Personally, life with two kids is wild, crazy, and unpredictable. I am lucky, I am able to make it out of the house without a gummy stuck to my jeans or a kid with both shoes on, lol! Let’s face it, if I can get the one shot that makes me feel like my very out of control life is somewhat not out of control, it’s a good session. I love being able to get that picture perfect moment for my amazing clients!
  5. Science – Photography is basically the study of light, and a way of manipulating it to make it work in your favor. It is so fun to be able to capture beautiful sun rays shining down on a sweet family. Color is also fun to manipulate, as it can change so much about a photo. I totally enjoy working with light, and seeing the power of what it can do. Who doesn’t love science?

More often than not, things come up, and I need somewhere to go. Whether it be a place to hang with my friends or a business meeting, I always find a good solution to be Conroe Coffee. This cute little coffee shop is the perfect atmosphere for just about anything. Not to mention, they have amazing food and beverages that are certain to complete your day.  So being a photographer in downtown Conroe, I never can resist stopping by to say hello!
Conroe Coffee is located right off of North Main Street in Conroe. It is a great business, filled with friendly staff. I love being able to walk into an establishment and feel welcomed right away. The folks at Conroe Coffee are super smiley and easy to talk to. When you first walk in, it looks small, but seems to get bigger as you walk through. There is art covering the walls, and more art surrounding the counter and tables. It’s got a bohemian, eclectic vibe that will ensure that you and your company have plenty of conversation topics. I seriously love the atmosphere!
The best part of Conroe Coffee is their menu. They have mouth watering pastries, kolaches, sandwiches, and quite the coffee menu. One of their most popular drinks is the Nutella latte, and let me tell you, it is amazing! When I have a business meeting with Organic Blogging, clients for my photography, Conroe Coffee is always my go to. This local shop has delicious food, delicious coffee, and an even better atmosphere. They also own Poppy’s in Willis, and it is as equally as good!

Andrea Surak Conroe Newborn Photography Style

Andrea Surak Conroe Newborn Photography Style

Being a newborn photographer in The Woodlands area, I have invested a lot of time in creating a unique, versatile, and comfortable environment for my clients. Baby photography has become a huge passion of mine. Let’s face it, is there anything cuter than a sweet sleepy newborn?! If you have ever wondered what it’s like to book a newborn session with Andrea Surak Photography, here is what you can expect during your experience:
1. Neutral Colors – I tend to use neutral colors throughout the session. This ensures that the images never seem dated. It keeps them displayable year round. So if you ever feel the urge to send your friends and family a cute photo of your little one, you do not have to worry about it looking too wintery, summery, etc.
2. Free Posed – When it comes to newborn sessions, one of my main priorities is that your little one is comfortable. I do not try to bend the baby into positions that they don’t typically bend in. My philosophy is to let your little one tell his/her story and capture their personalities (because believe it or not, they have one even that young/little).
3. Simple – Newborns are precious as can be, and in my opinion, the session should be all about them! I try not to use too many props or background images. These can take away from all of those adorable features that a newborn has. I try to focus on your little one’s precious sleeping face, their cute little toes, and all of the other things we love about babies!
4. Accessories – One think that I’m a sucker for are bonnets and tiebacks (headbands)! There is nothing sweeter than seeing a precious little one with a cute flower headband. Plus, this helps distinguish the gender of your little one, if that is something you are interested in!
5. Natural & Organic – I love the look of natural and organic props in a newborn session, such as fresh flowers and greenery. Plus, it is cost effective and safe for your little one to be surrounded with! I usually find these beautiful, natural props outside of my house. 
6. Stress and Care Free – I have to admit, I am always looking for simple and easy ways to do things. My best environment is one that is free of stress. I want my clients’ experience to be enjoyable rather than stressful. I found it best to let toddlers and babies control the session. If they cry, no worries! I have two kids of my own, and totally understand. I will only attempt certain poses a couple of times, otherwise, we move on. Easy newborn photography is my priority, so no need to worry if your little one is not “cooperating” the way you hoped.
7. Parent and Sibling Shots – I love being able to capture the sweet moments of loved ones snuggling up to the new baby in the family. I always encourage those natural emotions that occur spur of the moment. They turn out so beautifully! There is nothing better than capturing real smiles and real laughter. I use the same approach as my family sessions. What can I say? I just love candid newborn photography!

Montgomery Candid Family Photographer | Thomman Family

Montgomery Candid Family Photographer | Thomman Family

This is the Thomman family, some of the most fun and caring people I have ever gotten to work with! This sweet family contacted me recently to book a family session, and I could not have been more excited. Being a Montgomery Candid Family Photographer, I continuously meet amazing clients with amazing stories. And this is one of them.
Meet the Family
A wonderful family of four, the Thomman’s have service for others in their hearts. Dad is in the Army, and that in itself is amazing. Each day, he works hard to protect the lives of others around him.  Mom is an assistant principal at an elementary school in College Station.  She has a passion for educating little ones, which is also such a sacrifice for others. Eli, their sweet son has Cystic Fibrosis, but doesn’t let that get in his way at all. He continues to go through life with a happy-go-lucky attitude. And his sister, Samantha, is one of the sweetest and kind-hearted little souls I have ever met.  The Thomman’s are such a selfless, beautiful family, and I am so honored to have been able to serve them by capturing sweet memories that they can cherish for a lifetime!
A Candid Session
Candid photography is my passion, as I love being able to capture raw, natural, beautiful emotions. This sweet family was perfect for this, because they are such amazing, fun people! They had no problem letting loose and getting “in the moment,” which makes for an exciting day for everyone involved. Mom and Dad seemed to thoroughly enjoy spending a day with their kiddos. Eli was filled with energy, laughing and giggling so much! Samantha was sweet as can be, and smiled such a beautiful smile when interacting with her family. Reading is very important to the Thomman’s, so I loved that the kids brought books along with them to read. The books they were holding gave a little bit of a personalized touch, because their names were in the titles. All in all, it was a beautiful day with beautiful clients, of course!
Working with this sweet family has given me a little more insight about what it means to be a servant for other people. I think we could all gain something from the Thomman’s in one way or another.
If you are interested in learning more about Cystic Fibrosis, please click here. http://cysticfibrosis.com I’m sure it would mean a ton to this family for others to be more aware on ways to help!

Houston Photography: How to Manage Personal Life with being a Small Business Owner

Houston Photography: How to Manage Personal Life with being a Small Business Owner

If I had a dollar for every single time someone says, “I have no idea how you manage it all” I would seriously be the next Bill Gates.  haha 😉  As a mom, it seems that I always have my hands full. I mean, let’s face it, us moms are so busy constantly! From taking care of kids (and all that entails), taking care of personal responsibilities, making my husband feel loved and special, and trying to have a personal life in between, it seems impossible to add anything else on the to-do list. However, I had a passion for photography, and wanted to start a business following my dreams. I am here to tell all of you busy folks that it is possible! Whether you are a parent, a student, or just a busy person, you can definitely pursue so much more. Here are 4 tips on managing personal life with starting a new business.  When I first started doing Houston Photography, I “wore all the hats” and often felt like I was drowning.  I am proud to say, that I started doing these 4 things and my quality of life has significantly improved!
1. Start by outsourcing your least favorite task (whether it be in your personal life or business side). For example, hire a house cleaner, a photo editor, a person to manage your emails, or social media posts, etc. One great example of this is Wal-Mart (the most successful business ever). One person doesn’t wear all the hats. There’s department managers, store managers, regional managers, clerks, financial people, social media managers, etc etc etc etc! It’s proven to be successful. The same goes in any business.  So to outsource the tasks that doesn’t “ruffle your feathers” that seems like, “I can’t afford that, I can do it, etc.”  But the reality is- to make space for big thinking, you HAVE to do this.
2. Set yourself “work hours” – and don’t skew from them. This creates more “normalcy” in your life and sets good expectations for your clients on response times and turnaround times. It also kind of forces you to have time off. Time off is such a crucial part of owning a business. You need to take time for yourself and your family without work affairs involved.  And REALLY take time off.  Shut your emails off after your work hours are over, set up an auto responder for said emails that tell your clients that you will get back to them first thing in the morning, etc.  Enjoy these moments with your babies.  With your husband or wife.  Time is the only thing we will never be able to get back.
3. Prioritize. Your family should always come first. Many times we often find ourselves consumed with our jobs that we tend to do the opposite. However, making time for your family is something that you will find to be the most rewarding. 30 years from now, you won’t cherish those long nights on the job. What you WILL cherish are the memories made with your loved ones. This doesn’t have to be related to work, either. Make time elsewhere, such as chores around the house. The dishes can wait – take your kids on a bike ride on a beautiful day!
4. You matter, too! Making time for yourself is so important. We all need time to “recharge.” For instance, I enjoy going to the gym and getting a good workout in. This is something for me that I make time for. Without my fitfam over at CrossFit Willis, I think my brain would be on “insane” mode on the regular.  Give yourself a time in the day to read a book, write in your journal, tend to your garden, etc. YOU are so important!

Woodlands and Conroe Family Photography – Campbell Family

Hope you’ve had an absolutely beautiful week! The weather in The Woodlands and Conroe has been super crazy and warm all week and I am posting this session in hopes to bring back the cooler weather just for a few days!!!!! Hey there sweater weather, you there?!!  But I am also very excited for the spring and all the beauty that there is for Woodlands and Conroe Family Photography!!

Speaking of sweater weather, take a peek at this beautifully styled fall family photography session I had the honor to shoot this past month. I just love this family. Tawni is such an incredible friend to me and always makes me look so fab over at her salon.  And it was such a fun experience getting to see how all three of these generation interact with each other. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, posed pictures are great and definitely have their purpose and place….BUT! My absolute favorite shots are the ones where I get to capture the true personalities of each family.

It seriously brought tears to my eyes to see Grandma steal a kiss from Grandpa. Can you imagine how much love must be bursting from these two’s hearts!? Just picture, all of these happy and healthy souls have you to thank for their everything.

If you’re lucky enough to still have your grandparents in your life take the time to give them a quick jingle, I promise you, it’ll make their day. Seriously… Go call them!… I’ll wait…

“No man has ever lived that had enough of children’s gratitude or woman’s love.” – William Butler Yeats

Have a beautiful day guys. Much love <3

My story of pregnancy and miscarriage.

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”

Jeremiah 1:5

What Happened?

I debated whether to write this post or not.  I feel like this is not talked about very often, though it is so common.  I think because it is so common, it is discredited to “not a big deal” or it should not be made into a big deal.  And perhaps, for some, it’s not.  But for me, it is.  There are also many that knew about my pregnancy, but may still be in the dark about what happened, as I haven’t had the courage to text, call, reach out to everyone to explain what happened.  I just couldn’t bare that pain over and over and over again, so I figured a heartfelt note would suffice, where all can be made aware at once.

This time last week, I was so excited for an appointment coming up on February 1st.  February 1st was my 10 week ultrasound to see my new growing baby.  “Baby Oopsie” as we nicknamed him/her.  Haha, unplanned pregnancies (this would have been my second unplanned one) have a way of rattling you up and shaking your world upside down, sideways and then right back up again.  But for us, it was a happy surprise.  Scary, yes.  But really happy.

Friday morning (2-27-2017) I was getting ready to start the morning, did my business, got my oldest little ready and sent off to school, and the youngest one headed off to see her “gigi.”  For about a week, I had noticed my pregnancy symptoms subsiding and I started to feel better.  I was apprehensive to get too excited about it, because when I was pregnant with my other two babies, my morning sickness had me down for at least 12 weeks.  I was just approaching 10 weeks, so it didn’t feel “right.”  **I should also mention that I have extremely bad anxiety, so if you’re reading this and are pregnant, just because my symptoms are exhibited differently or similarly compared to yours, DOES NOT mean that you are miscarrying or you do not have a healthy pregnancy.**  If for some reason you are worried, please do call your doctor. <3

I ran quickly to the restroom and noticed a little bit of spotting.  I tried to keep myself calm, as this happened to me during my first pregnancy and everything was ok.  Who am I kidding… certainly not myself.  I was panicked.  The spotting slowed down and eventually stopped, but my OB/GYN was able to squeeze me in (I cannot say enough wonderful things about my new OB) just to keep me sane and for my peace of mind over the weekend.

I wish it had turned out to be better news, but unfortunately, it did not.  When I arrived to the doctor’s office, they got me in quickly for an ultrasound, where my baby’s heartbeat was not detected.  I had to say it to myself over and over and over again.  “My baby’s heart beat is not there.  I lost my baby.”  This baby who, like my other two, gave me some awful morning sickness, made me extremely fatigued, and the baby who I grew to love and inherently wanted to protect.  I can’t remember really my emotions in that moment, I just felt like I wanted to wake up from this nightmare I thought I wouldn’t have to go through.  I almost made it out of what I call the “danger zone” and had FELT pregnant for about a month.  I just didn’t understand what happened.  And I still don’t.

After speaking with my doctor, I was presented with two choices: let my body miscarry on its own, or to get help with the process and do a D&C.  Initially, like many very brave mothers, I decided to allow my body to do its job (much like labor) and went home.  After speaking with a couple of other mamas who have gone through the same thing, and reading what this experience would be like, this black cloud of fear and worry of “what’s to come” consumed me.  It consumed every thought I had.  I also did not realize how slow the process of miscarriage is (for me it was slow).  So on Monday I went back to my OB/GYN and he was able to move around his schedule and schedule a D&C for me that evening.  I couldn’t bare the thought of how I would react to “what was to come,” and what to do when it did come, and I was terrified of miscarrying naturally and of those thoughts.  I am so grateful for him for doing what he did for me.

What I learned from This.

  1. It’s not my fault.  Nothing I did made this happen.  I am at peace about that.  I am so sad that I will not meet baby oopsie earthside, but you better believe I am so excited to meet them in heaven one day.
  2. How grateful I am for my two that I do have.  I realize that life is a gift.  It most certainly is not guaranteed.  I have two thriving, healthy, caring, and beautiful human beings that God trusted me to care for.  I feel so lucky to have them.  I also feel lucky to have experienced baby oopsie for just a couple months.  As cliche as it sounds, a mother’s love forms as soon as you realize that you have a life in you.  That life was meaningful.  That life was important.  And that life was a gift to me.  I don’t discredit that.
  3. There are so many women who have experienced this.  And it’s not talked about as often as you would think it is, and in my opinion, how often it should be.  It hurts.  And time heals most wounds, but for me, talking about those wounds helps me heal.  So here I am.  I encourage you to reach out if you need to talk to someone.  I want to be there for you and I will share my experience with you.
  4. Initially I felt embarrassed that I had told many people about my pregnancy and thinking of telling them that I had lost my baby was unbearable.  It still kinda is.  After much reflection, I don’t feel embarrassed or ashamed.  I did what most mothers do- got excited for the miracle of life that my body was growing.  I wanted to celebrate this new baby and I was so excited about it.  So I am GLAD my baby was celebrated by many and I am GLAD that I was excited about it.  That’s normal and natural to be excited about your babies.  So BE EXCITED no matter the outcome.
  5. I have an amazing support system.  It’s true.  From family, close friends, my “fit fam” and everyone else in between… I love you.  You made the start of this ongoing process easier to handle.

And for all of you mamas that have gone through this.  I am sorry.  From the bottom of my heart, I am so sorry that you went through this.  All the haunting and scary questions, the anxiety during the first trimester, to analyzing every ache, pain, or lack there of… to the miscarriage itself.  I pray for you and for all you mamas that may experience it, I am here for you.  I’ve always encouraged other mamas to stick together, and this is no different.  We are so unique.  We have to stick together. <3

And to all that have prayed, sent messages, and expressed your care.  You are so amazing.  You are my people and I am grateful for you.

“I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.”
Psalm 139:14

Montgomery County Tx Family Photographer – O’Leary Family

Montgomery County Tx  Family Photographer – O’Leary Family

Pink sun dresses…Ruffled collars….Monogrammed initials…Could we possibly get any girlier?! How about we throw in two gorgeous little ladies, add a handsome daddy to wrap around their tiny pinkies and a beautiful mommy all dressed in white. A fairy tale you say?… I’d have to agree, but to the O’Leary family– this is simply the life they’ve been blessed with.  It’s a true joy to be able to serve my community and documenting their precious moments.  Being a Montgomery County Tx Family Photographer has also blessed me with special souls such as these.

We did one quick outfit change on the littlest princess and off we were on an adventure. Let’s take a second to stop and appreciate the earthy goodness of this field…Yum!!! Could you possibly imagine a more perfect tree-lined path, with more perfect lighting for a more perfect family?! I’m beginning to see a trend here..  we took to the wide open fields of Montgomery, Tx right next to Fernland Historical Park and Ransom’s Steakhouse right off of HWY 105.  Fernland is nestled right next to the Montgomery County Library and provides such a unique setting for a family portrait session.

I love playing games with the children throughout family portrait sessions. It lightens things up a bit and gets their gigglers going. My favorite game has to be having mommy and daddy lift a blanket high in the air and have the littles sprint under. (Is it just me or are you having flashbacks to Friday’s in elementary gym class??…Ohhh…Parachute day…. Best. Day. Ever.) Aaaanywho.. This game never fails to yield perfect looks of pure joy on the kiddos faces. A child at play is a truly beautiful thing to behold, don’t you think?

It was an honor getting to know and work with this family. I am so grateful for each and every one of my clients and the opportunity I get to sneak in and steal a picture of the beauty that is their world. Enjoy.

The Woodlands Lifestyle Newborn Photography Session – Stampes

The Woodlands Lifestyle Newborn Photography Session – Stampes

Talk about two beautiful boys! This family was such fun to photograph. The faces their littlest one made cracked. me. up.!!  Momma better watch out! Carter’s already got his “come and get me” look down pat! Of course, his big bro did his very best to steal the show (and I have to admit, I didn’t mind one little bit).  The personality in this one is huge!! He had me in a constant fit of giggles– Like, for real.. Too presh… This was everything I love and more with a The Woodlands Lifestyle Newborn Photography Session.  We took to their beautiful apartment off of FM 2978 and The Woodlands Parkway nestled in the back of the Woodlands, Tx.  It was a dream much like this beautiful family was <3

With a 20 minute drive to The Woodlands Mall, and Market St, The Woodlands is always such a fun and beautiful place to do pictures.  When it’s in my client’s home, it’s just all the better.

We had both of the boys all in white, with mom draped in a lovely taupe and white striped dressed, paired perfectly with her handsome hubby dressed in a gorgeous shade of dove gray. This truly beautiful family looked absolutely breathtaking while bathed in floods of perfect natural lighting…Swoon!!

This kind of lighting gives such a fresh, clean feel to the sessions. I can’t help but equate this with the feeling these two parents must be having right about now. A new baby has a tendency to do that to you. It gives you the chance at a fresh start. A new beginning. You have the great responsibility and honor to mold and shape these little humans. A life full of possibilities lie at the very tips of their ever-so-delicate fingers. And I have a feeling this world will be a more wonderful place because of these two little men.
