The Woodlands Photographer Summer Series | 5 Inexpensive and Fun Summer Activities to do with you and your kiddos at home

The Woodlands Photographer Summer Series | 5 Inexpensive and Fun Summer Activities to do with Your Kiddos without Leaving Home

Summer is right around the corner, and I am determined to make it one of the best yet! Kiddos will be getting out of school, which means houses will be a little busier than normal. I am super excited to spend time with my kids, but let’s face it – being cooped up in the house tends to get a little tiring, especially when there is nothing to do.

Solution? I would say take them places, but as much as I love taking my kids to water parks and other fun summer places, that stuff gets expensive. Not to mention, getting out of the house with two kids can be somewhat of a tricky process. Getting ready, getting shoes on, and buckling in car seats can wear a mama down! Of course, we will do this every now and then, but I want to spend quality time with my children without all of the hassle. If you are like me and need some ideas, here are 5 inexpensive and fun summer activities to do with you and your kiddos at home.

  1. Plant a small garden – This will give your kids a hands-on experience that they will LOVE. Kids are fascinated by planting seeds and watching them grow. Furthermore, it teaches patience, responsibility, and care. Plant your favorite fruits and veggies, and your kids will be so proud when their hard work pays off and you eat it at the dinner table!
  2. Get a rope and build a rope swing – This one brings back so many memories of my pop’s house. We could swing for hours as our bellies filled with butterflies. This is such a fun and easy idea to surprise your kids with!
  3. Do a treasure hunt with your kiddos (map and all) – Treasure hunts are so fun, and require kids to use critical thinking skills. Hide a series of clues, make a map, and have something waiting for them at the end. Imagine your kiddos spending an hour or so following the map, and finding popsicles at the end to enjoy outside!
  4. Set up a lemonade stand – This is a classic idea that will never get old! It is such a rich experience for kids to work hard, make something, and see the payoff. They can make a sign, set up a little booth, and become salesmen for their product! Lemonade stands are seriously so fun, and require such little effort! Your kiddos will love counting their money at the end!
  5. Have a camping read-a-thon – This one can be set up indoors or outside! Get that dusty old tent out of the garage, and put it up somewhere at your house. There is something about tents that kids love, and encouraging them to read while relaxing in a tent is a great way to keep up the hard work they put in throughout the school year. If you set the tent up inside, turn the lights off, give them a flashlight with a book, and they will enjoy reading for hours!

And as always, I would love to come to your home and be your photographer for the day.  A fly on the wall, if you will.  Be sure to check out my portfolio if you’d like to book a session with me!

Don’t Give Up. Keep Hustlin’. You Got This.

Don’t Give Up.  Keep Hustlin’.  You Got This.

This is a shoutout to all of those small business owners out there! As one myself, I am constantly reminded of the struggle. To be honest, we work so dang hard, and sometimes it is hard to keep going. What I love about it, though, is that the hard work totally pays off. There is nothing better than making wonderful clients happy, and building relationships with the amazing people I have the pleasure of working with. So, if you own a small business and need a little pick-me-up, this one is for you!
“Successful men and women keep moving. They make mistakes, but they don’t quit.” ―Conrad Hilton
One of the biggest things to remember when it comes to owning a small business is to keep going, even through those tough times. There are going to be those moments where business is slow, money is tight, or you are just to busy for words to explain. However, if you keep investing into your passion, it will all pay off in the end. Always remember that if you believe in yourself and your business, you CAN and WILL be successful!  And the ones who hustle are the ones who do well at it.  So never.stop.hustlin’.
“Never give up or lose faith in something that you know God has placed in your life.” – Unknown
My favorite rule of thumb is to make time for yourself and your family. There is nothing more important than our loved ones, and it’s key to make time for them. As a photographer and small business owner, my schedule is always super busy. I absolutely love my job, but I don’t want to miss a single moment with my kiddos.  So learning how to prioritize and understanding that things can wait, or hiring help is key in being successful.
I have to make time for them. It’s not going to be those long work days that you will remember. It will be the sweet moments with your family filled with smiles and giggles. My favorite way of doing this is setting myself “work hours” that I try not to stray from. That way I can have guaranteed time with my family and I won’t resent work because it’s filling up all of my time.
“Never give up, for that is just the place and time that the tide will turn.” ―Harriet Beecher Stowe
Owning a small business is hard and I get it. Trust me.  Not knowing where your next paycheck will come, if it ever will, or dreaming for some sort of guaranteed stability is what all of us can relate on.  However, please please please do not give up! There is always a pay off in one way or another. Whether it be donating your time and talent to a family in need, seeing your clients burst into tears when they see the art you produced, or making new friends with your clients and their kiddos.  There is something raw and beautiful about forming relationships with the ones who support and trust you to fulfill their vision.  And with that, I should say as well… I totally support all local small businesses, as I understand how much time and dedication it takes. If you can relate, I appreciate you and all that you do! If you are interested in learning more about how to manage personal life with being a small business owner, you can find more info on my blog or reach out, I’d love to hear your questions!! <3

Extended Family of 5 Candid Pictures in The Woodlands

Extended Family of 5 Candid Pictures in The Woodlands

What a sweet family this one is! Daniella Garens and her loved ones came all the way from Dallas to visit me, and how happy I am that they did! Daniella had her two cute kiddos and her parents with her. These five are such kind spirits, and were a treasure to have in front of the camera!  With that, cheers to these adorable Extended Family of 5 Candid Pictures in The Woodlands.
If there was a mom of the year award, it would definitely go to Daniella! She is such a sweet and loving mama to both of her kids. It is obvious that they are the stars in her sky. That they are the fire that lights her soul. Daniella’s daughter broke her arm the week before the session, and she was a tad bit worried about how that would affect the session. Since I am a candid and lifestyle portrait photographer, this didn’t bother me in the least. It is so indicative of the sweet girl’s age. Daniella’s kiddos had so much fun, laughing and being silly the whole time. I was able to get some adorable photos of these two playing and hugging each other. I love seeing siblings getting along and having fun, probably because these moments can be rare in my house, haha! Let’s face it, siblings will be siblings. These two acted as if they were best friends, and it was so great to capture!
The grandparents joined us, and I’m so glad they were able to be a part of the family photos. They were a bit apprehensive to be in front of the camera at first, but they warmed up to it, and magic happened. We also had a couple pups join in on the session. You could tell that these two doggies are loved tremendously, and are definitely part of the family. My favorite part of the session was seeing all 7 of these precious family members sitting together. They were so fun, so natural, and overall a loving family.

Ashley Cox is a good friend of my mom and step dad’s. She’s a nurse and such a good, devoted mama. I admire her ability to nurture others throughout each and every day. It takes a very special person to have those jobs! She is also a fellow cross fitter at a different gym than mine. We have a lot in common, and I love being able to chat with her during sessions. This sweet mama has been using me since her daughter, Kayleigh, was just one year old! The first time I worked with the Cox family was when Kayleigh celebrated her birthday in my studio at the salon. We did a cake smash, which she totally loved! She was my first ever client in that studio, and I am so glad that she has been there since the beginning. This little one seems to love me so much. After every session, she asks me to stay and play. It is hard to resist such a sweet little face!

The Cox’s Family Portrait Session

Working with the Cox family is always a treasure, as I love them so! For this session, I took them to my favorite spot. I work in The Woodlands as a natural light candid family photographer, and have always been blessed with gorgeous locations to take my clients. I am so excited that I have found a lovely little location in Willis, Texas. It’s so simple, which allows me to really focus on the family, while adding small details that compliment the folks that I’m working with.
Ashley, her husband Brandon, and their two kiddos were precious! I always want my clients to feel comfy, so I encourage them to play around and have fun. Kayleigh is now a big sister with a younger brother named Nolan. These two are precious as can be. Kayleigh had a blast with me, as always. Nolan was super cute, calm, and smiley! Ashley and Brandon played with their little ones, and I loved to see them laughing and smiling so much. There’s nothing sweeter than a family like this one! The Cox family has a special place in my heart, and I am looking forward to working with them again in the future!
Capturing this The Woodlands Natural Light Candid Family Photography for the Cox family was such an honor. Aren’t they adorable?!

Houston Indoor Lifestyle Family Photography | The Anderson Family

Words cannot describe what this family means to me. They are long term friends of mine, and I am so unbelievably blessed to have them in my life. John’s wife passed away in June 2015, and she was a very well-known and very talented newborn photographer. Jamie was such a close friend to me, and such an inspiration. Being a Houston indoor lifestyle family photography artist has been heavily influenced by sweet Jamie. I wouldn’t be where I am today without her influence and guidance.

Welcoming Natalie into the Fold

John has recently found the next love of his life and I could not be any happier for this wonderful man. This session was his new and amazing wife’s bridal shoot, along with their “engagement” pictures. I couldn’t help but to be in awe of this gorgeous and talented woman, Natalie. Not just because she is breath-takingly beautiful, but because the aura she gives off is so sweet and kind natured. I’m seriously ecstatic for John and this new chapter in his life.

A Stunning Family

John and Natalie’s session was joined by their precious children. Aubree, the youngest, was full of energy and such a personality! This little one was so silly and had a lot of fun throughout the session. One thing that I loved about this session was the amazing decorations throughout the home. Natalie has the BEST taste in home décor and works at Ethan Allen in The Woodlands (18390 Interstate 45S, The Woodlands, Tx).
Their home was a dream come true, and made it such a beautiful place to have a session! Natalie and John have such a great connection, and you can see their loving chemistry in nearly every photo. I adored the images we captured of them sitting in side-by-side smiling and laughing at one another. It was also so fun to see the kids playing and giggling with each other!
This sweet family has been through some tough times, but I am so thrilled to see that they have found their happiness. I know Jamie is so happy to see that such a wonderful woman, such as Natalie, has entered their lives. Congratulations to John and Natalie! If you are interested in booking a session with a Houston Indoor Lifestyle Family Photographer, please email me, or simply click here!
This family is so incredibly near and dear to my heart. Capturing their Houston Indoor Lifestyle Family Photography was such an honor!

The Woodlands Family Fun

So many laughs, smiles, and memories made during this family session! It was so much fun to capture this amazing family because I go to the gym with Rachel and Hali! I think that made them super comfortable in front of the camera. It gave me the opportunity to capture their true personalities! This was the perfect time for them to update their family portraits since the kids are growing up so quickly. They are some of the sweetest and most beautiful people I have ever met as a The Woodlands Family Natural Light Photographer – inside and out!

About the Wood Family

It was very important to showcase the bond that they have with one another. So I let them be silly and just interact with one another while I took tons of pictures! You can really tell how much they all mean to one another! The best part of it all was that they had every single-family member participate – including their little dog! Their little fury friend is a big part of their life, so we couldn’t dare leave him out! It was so sweet to watch them play together, and I know it will mean a lot to them for many years to come. I can already see these being framed all around their house and bringing them many smiles!

This shoot was for DoTERRA’s (essential oils) member magazine, DoTERRA Living, that goes out to all their members. The Millers were actually selected to be featured in the magazine, and they asked me to be their photographer! What an incredible compliment and honor.
DoTERRA’s essential oils are volatile, aromatic compounds that occur naturally in seeds, bark, stems, roots, flowers, and other plant parts. They have been used for food preparation, beauty treatment, and health-care practices for many many years. While there are over 3,0000 varieties of essential oils, each contains its own unique and specific benefits. Each pertain to a wide range of emotional and physical wellness applications. Such as soothing sore muscles, helping with digestion, improving sleep, and reducing nervousness and anxiety. In fact, my aunt had introduced me to essential oils several years back, and I absolutely love them. There are so many great benefits that they can offer its unbelievable.

About this Session

The Millers were an absolute pleasure to work with. Amy and Jim are some of the nicest people I’ve ever met, and their three boys were so fun and delightful. The twin boys were just too cute and so full of energy and personality, and their big brother, Noah, was so handsome, mature, and caring for his two little brothers. They were so sweet to their mama, bringing her flowers and giving her kisses, and they loved wrestling with Dad! How fun?!!! I can definitely see why the Millers were chosen to be featured in DoTERRA’s member magazine; this family’s love for each other is so unbelievable, and as the pictures show, they are so full of life and make one great team as a family.
I am so blessed and fortunate that my passion for photography brings me to meeting and working with such wonderful and amazing families like the Millers and allows for amazing opportunities like this one. I can’t even express how blessed I am to have my work featured in magazines, such as DoTERRA’s Living Magazine, for causes and products I believe in and love myself through photos of a such a beautiful and lovely family.
What a fun family! Being the Miller family’s The Woodlands Family Photography artist was such a treat! Love those smiles!!

The Woodlands Family Photographer | The Patrick Family

The Woodlands Photography | The Patrick Family

When I think back on this sunny session the following words come to mind: laughter, spunk, and warmth.  It wasn’t uncommon at all to hear laughter coming from either one of the kids or their fantastic parents Casey and Alyssa.  It seems like between the seven of them there’s always something funny going on.  You can tell that this family loves to be together and there have been many beautiful moments of laughter that have filled their home. Being able to document families like this and doing The Woodlands Photography is such an honor. The opportunity to spend this precious evening in the golden light of their company was such a joy.

About this session

I say spunk next because each of the kids had a unique and infectious spirit about them.  One may be more talkative than the other, and another one might have a smirk on their face you just know means something hysterical is about to happen.  Regardless of their individual differences, you know that one thing is certain – each of them has a spirit about them that pulls you in and makes you want to have them as a friend.  I think this comes from Casey and Alyssa’s big hearts for others.  Both are ER doctors who are extremely kind and always just a phone call away for me. Casey is the doctor who got me through the years of having sub-par medical insurance he was the doctor I saw when I had appendicitis.  I’ve known this family since the youngest boy was two, and have continually seen that they are all wonderful people.

I also think of warmth when it comes to this family.  Part of that is likely the natural light coming in behind their faces.  The other part though is the warmth you can feel that exists between the parents and their kids, the joy that is between each of them.  Whether it was one of the brothers looking up lovingly at his dad, or the two teen girls walking arm in arm as step-sisters-turned-friends, you can tell there’s a beautiful warm connection between this beautiful blended family.

Thanks for letting me hang out with your family and take these photos for you all.  I’m glad I’m able share my love of photography with a family that has shared so much with me.

The Woodlands Natural Light Family Photography | Hahn Family Session

The Woodlands Natural Light Family Photography | Hahn Family Session

This little guy had me cracking up throughout this entire The Woodlands Natural Light Family Photography session! I have no idea how he packs such a huge personality into such a tiny body, but I loved every sweet second I was able to spend with him and his sweet family. The fun that they so easily had with each other was such a joy to witness. I could see the pride flowing from these two little guy’s dad as he flung them into the air. I could see the love flow freely from their mommy’s heart, wrapping them up in her sweet smile.

Photography to me is an escape and an outlet. It allows me to express my creative passion, that brings a smile to the beautiful faces I capture. Hearing someone overcome with happiness as they look through the collection of images taken of their sweet family, or to see a tear quietly slip down the cheek of a new mother as she flips through the images of her brand new baby boy fills my heart with such happiness and helps me wake each morning with a smile on my face. I think the best part about this industry is the unknown. I love to sit and think about the next beautiful session I will soon have the opportunity to capture. Or the next new friendship that I will have the chance to make with my sweet clients. This life may be busy, with a booming business, two sweet kiddos, three pets and a husband who all need me. But this is my beautiful life and I adore every second that I am blessed to spend here on this sweet Earth.
